I am so happy to be back at Hidden River Middle School teaching IB MYP Design! I have the privilege of teaching MYP Design 1, MYP Design 2 (new this year!), and 7th Grade Foundations. Middle schoolers have amazing energy and I love spending time with them as they learn and grow. My favorite thing about teaching middle school is that I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me.
Hidden River is a warm, friendly, and strong community where learning and growth are the priority. I value the stability and caring of our staff and students because my family moved a lot when I was a child and schools were a place that made sense to me when the rest of the world felt chaotic.
I moved to Minnesota from Reno, Nevada at the age of 19 to attend college, and have never looked back! My husband grew up in the Twin Cities and he is also a St. Paul Public Schools teacher. We have three children (19, 16, and 12) and 4 pets (2 dogs and 2 cats). We love to garden, cook, attend concerts, watch movies, and play games together as a family. I also enjoy reading, paper arts, knitting, embroidery, and crochet.
Something unusual about me is that I have attended over 500 births as a certified birth doula and I have also taught childbirth education to hundreds of expectant families. Another noteworthy thing about me is that I have ADHD, which is both a superpower and a challenge at the same time. I appreciate my ADHD when it allows me to see new ways of solving problems and to connect with students who are neurodiverse, but it can also be a source of frustration for me when I forget to follow up on important things or forget to bring something with me that I needed for the day. So please do me a favor - if you ever reach out to me and don't get a fast reply, please send me another email because I probably wrote you a response and got distracted before I pressed the "send" button. 😀
I am grateful to you for trusting me to teach your student. I know that every student in my classroom is amazing, bright, and able to learn and grow. If there is every anything you want me to know in order to meet the needs of your child, please let me know!
